If the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) talks between the US and the EU come to a successful conclusion then they could have a profound impact on cross Atlantic trade; and the future direction of Scottish and UK Agriculture. The talks which are aiming to make trade easier between the EU and the US have been widely criticised due to a lack of transparency.

Different approaches to farming issues such as meat and milk from hormone treated cattle and GM crops are likely to make getting to an agreement on agriculture difficult. At the same time the TTIP attracts broad support with caveats from mainstream political parties. It’s easy to understand why, one study has estimated that EU exports to the US could increase by as much as 28%, and that an average family of four in the EU would benefit by an extra EUR 545 in disposable income per year.
